Return to Deutschland
We aim the van towards Frankfurt.
I make some coffee, pee and pull out of the campground quietly, there's a floating small layer of mist above a few houses.
The grizz is snoring away and wrapped up in blankies as a wander down the valley at 6:15 am. It's a beautiful morning, I'm feeling sad like I'm leaving a friend knowing I'll be out of Switzerland in a few hours. It's so beautiful!
I m making good time, passing gorgeous lakes, as usual going thru timnels, over bridges that can't be done. We tried not to change any more euro's into Swiss Frank's so I'm waiting to buy gas till I enter Deutschland
Finally the coffee wants out. It's 9:30 hibernation should be about over in the back. The petrol tank at $ 1.45 per liter is thirsty once again......i pull over..
Now let me tell you about most of these rest areas in Europe. They are awesome! (As they say in bahston). Really great cafeteria style restaurants, with lots of options, fresh bread, cheeses, all kinds of snacks, espresso, and as usual toilets that cost a buck to get in...i think we spent at least $50 on going to the bathroom, when there was no possible option, and us country boys know our options when it comes to paying to pee!!
We're back on the highway...heading north. We stop again and email Sasha.
Sasha is a good friend of my skiing buddy Sandy. We're stopping to visit him in Frankfurt. We're arrriving at 3-4 pm.
Traffic, construction, congestion...
But on the weekends 98% of all tractor trailer trucks are parked in rest areas. It's against the rules for them to travel. But I think every car and camper that's registered in Europe is on the highways...
Through the godsend of technology we meander off the highway and find sashas flat. He's a really nice fellow. He shows around his flat makes coffee, we shower and head into Frankfurt.
We wander around the rebuilt old section and see the cathedral, which was one of the only buildings left standing during the massive bombing s of Frankfurt and it's industrial base during WW2.
Then it's a walk across the river and to an old apiel vien bar. We share a table with Dieter a nice older chap. We mix Apple wine with sparkling water and tell stories, till the wines all gone..
Now we walk, a little lighter back to the car, and drive to Sachas favorite pub. This is where he watches soccer ( football) . We enjoy beers, ribs and chicken wings.
In fine german tradition Sasha buys us a frozen shot of jagermiester, we empty that and he brings us back to the flat, drops us off. He tells us to enjoy the flat, he's going over a friends, drink coffee, eat breakfast and lock the door on the way out. Ok so we do!
