Obersteinberg hike

We wake up to the sun!
Excellent day for a hike, but it might get warm..
Eat breakfast, inject coffee and drive away.
There s a campground at the end of the valley.
we can walk to the hiking trail and get some exercise!
The van is parked, the rushing glacier fed rivah is about 30 meters behind the van.
Back packs are complete, with everything we don't need, were off.
Up the trail, the sun's out, the view is ling an the uphill walk(?) Doesn't stop, either does the sweating or breathing. Oh not this type of fun again so soon...
We're hiking in trees, and on the edges of steep grazing land . The views are constantly intermittent, we can see the glaciers and the waterfalls cascading down the opposite cliffs. We take numerous breaks, drinking water. Hikers that have spent the night in the alpine huts are passing us in the opposite direction. We dip our hats in the many streams that cross our path.
After 2+ hrs we reach the restaurant. Now the only access is hiking or helicopter. This building which has rooms for rent and a restaurant has been around since the early 1900's.
We order yak sausages and drinks, they graze a small herd of yaks here... the turnaround point for our hike is another 20+ minutes up. The view of the glaciers and mountain tops is stunning.
We continue up, to obersteinberg .We hear a helicopter... We watch it flys up the valley and hovers up ahead , looks like it's picking up at the upcoming restaurant.... it's hovering about 20 meters above the ground for a bit , then it slowly begins to rise... the line under it is taut. OMG it's lifting up a cow!
It rises up and swings away with this full grown cow mooing  and looking around. Switzerland. We arrive at the restaurant/ inn building . Order a coffee and ask about the cow airlift? The waitress says it was sick and needed to go to the vets. Ok it's cheaper to helicopter out the cow to the vets than to bring the vet up.
Our coffee is good, we talk to a group, that will be staying overnite and hiking the 4+ hr hike around the very end of the valley tomorrow.
The views are wonderful! Obersteinberg is a wonderful destination, thanks Chris for the recommendation.
We begin our descent.  This hike was grand,  900 meter elevation gain, about 8hrs total, 8 miles walked.
Dinnah is simple hot dogs and beans, the showah s are hot and we sleep good.
