So today we left the Matterhorn to head to Venice. We left at about 9:20 am with bowls of granola for breakfast and 2 cups of coffee in our bellies. When we left it was cold grey and raining :/ Once we left the valley the sky cleared and we were blessed with clear blue skys and a balmy 80° weather. We proceeded to climb the Swiss alps headed towards Italy. About 45 min after leaving we reached about 8,000 feet and were above the clouds! We then got stuck at a stop sign at one end of a construction sight. We waited there for about 5 min and during that time the clouds rose and completely enveloped us! There's cool. About another hour into the ride we reached the top of a hill and read the sign that said we had a 10° grade! Wow we thought this is gonna be crazy and it was for 10 miles as well. Once we got into Italy we quickly realized that there roads are in dire condition. We were met with potholes and dips everywhere, uneven pavement and different textures ever couple hindered feet. Once we got on the highway it was much better but still not like the states. We pulled into a campground to spend the night. When we arrived it dident seem like much but after a little bit we knew out way around the grounds and found that it was actually very nice. We then asked the reception
were we should go to eat to get some real Italian food. We took there suggestion and started the 5 or so min walk to the restaurant. The food was amazing and really inexpensive. Overall the best food I've had on the trip. Later in the night we headed into Venice and got to see some amazing sites and that made the day all worth it. Being able to see the floating city was magical.
