Another day....
I awaken during the night to piter pater on the roof...hmmmm sounds like
R A I N
SHIT
Glad I put the hiking shoes that were on the roof under the van......
Glad we took the campsight with the lean- to and didn't leave all our stuff out.
Now I know all you that are reading this always when camping prepare for rain.....ya right
So up I get in a drizzle the shoes are dry
The table and chairs damp. They now get moved under the lean to so Liam won't yell at me when he gets up for not thinking about this, as we adults sometimes often don't k now.
I have a coffee and can't decide whether to stay in Swiss or Venice????
Frank would say venice.......
I ponder over maps and books for 1 & 1/2 hrs...
I wake the dead guy in the van up...5 more minutes please dad......ok
Now get up!!!@@
He has a coffee and we decide it's raining here, maybe wes should go to venezie...
Ok were outta here
Of c ourse 1 mile downt he road the rain stops
Down out of zermatt valley then up some crazy scary bridges and mountain passes out Swiss into italy!!!
Hey Freddy we 're here again!!!
We ride down a long side a blue clear mountain river stream.
The villages look different, the roads are a little more worn, musta been from the crusades...
We pass a section of the dolomites in northern Italy, very jagged, pointed peaks with much more green than Swiss.
Thru Milan and onto venezie..5 hrs later the rain starts & lightening....
That ole in updated GPS takes us right into
Rialto camping. Just outside of the isle of venice.
$25 euro's later we have wifi, a parking spot, showers, a bar, lots of 2 person tents for rent and toilets of course without tp.
We grab a drink at the outside bar, Liam meets some 20 somethings...
We ask about local food " no tiurists"
2 blocks away....ok we walk,
Multo bienne '
We have caprese, fried mushrooms, ham sandwich thingy, a pyramid shaped warm bread, Liam has a rolled up pizza, I have homemade mushroom ravioli...
We're stuffed!
A 10 minute bus ride into the city.
Oh my god
I'm amazed
Water
Amazing old buildings ,alleys, everywhere h as stone pavers, no cars, restaurants down every alley, and it's amazing they all speak italian!
We walk and walk, gondola s, dead end alleys, most Building are 4-5 stories.
We sweat, we walk, we sweat, we walk,
Finally we unexpectedly walk out onto st. Marks square! About the size of a football field, surrounded by gorgeous Building, built centuries ago....
Amazing
This is the place my friends paid 85 euro's for 2 coffees and pastry. Oh yeah it's totally beautiful too! Breathtaking.
We listen to a couple of the small vivaldi type bands playing,
Just grand!
Lovers hand in hand
Couples dancing
Hawkers selling lite toys
Italian police
Kids feeding pigeons
And 2 guys from Oregon sweating..
Alas Liam pulls out his Google maps
And we start back because it's been great to see venice at nite, but the bus stops running soon, so we start back through the maze.
The main canal is exquisite
All lit up: gondolas, boat taxis, boats all about
But not one sotar raft anywhere....
